August Commodore’s Corner
It appears that progress is being made in capping the runaway oil well spewing hydrocarbons into our Gulf. What a relief. In the months that the oil has been leaking, it’s given us time to make plans on what we would do if the oil began showing up here. I’ve heard lots of folks wonder where they could volunteer or offer help if we began to get oil on our coastline.
The urgency of not knowing how much longer we could sail without worrying about oil on the boat, in the motor, etc. also made me wonder why we’re not sailing more regardless of the worry of what’s coming. We don’t need a reason to go out for a few hours, and it certainly isn’t difficult to get to the water since we live on the coast. So why don’t we go out more?
With that in mind, we’ve decided to make a more committed effort to take part in the events that HBYC has planned in the upcoming months. We’re going to try to join a day sail instead of going out by ourselves, and we’re going to get involved in an overnight excursion even though our boat isn’t ideally suited for ‘camping’. I would encourage you to participate more also. Let’s get on the water and enjoy our little piece of paradise. You never know when it will change…
