Brief History

In the Spring of 1985, a few friends from the Hudson, Florida area got together and wanted to form a club to go sailing together. A meeting was arranged at the home of Ron Ferris, who became the first Commodore of the newly formed HBYC. Six potential members signed on that night and the club has been in existence for the past 20 years, slowly increasing to our basic strength of around 100 memberships or 153 members.

The members held their meetings at one another's homes until we started expanding enough to look for places to meet. We met at many different locations, with our current location now being the Signal Cove Homeowners Building, on the first Tuesday of the month. Our first newsletter was instituted as a couple of typewritten notes intended to let our members know what the club was planning for the next month. In September of 1989, our first official newsletter, with a masthead of "Marker 2", was inaugurated and has really improved over the years. The club serves our community by supporting Cruising, Racing, Social Events, Educational and Community Service Programs.

Like Hudson, our club continues to grow. We have rag sailors, power boaters, fishing boats and a lot of people with no boats at all who enjoy the camaraderie of people fascinated with the sea. Our club offers.......................

"Something for Everyone"......... and we welcome you.

Welcome to the Hudson Beach Yacht Club website. Please take the time to browse through all of its pages. You will find information on most of our activities and a rather complete picture of what our club is all about.

In 2007 our club membership exceeded 100 memberships [170+ people] for the second year in a row. The club is currently composed of 25% power boats, 15% social (no boats) and 60% sailors. We have fishermen, racers, day sailors, short term cruisers and long term cruisers.

Our group is diversified in their knowledge and come from varied backgrounds. We do not own a club house or docks and most of the members keep their boats behind their homes, at a local marina or on a trailer. We have access to a fantastic municipal dock and a well maintained boat ramp. We stress boating safety and knowledge. We are active in community programs like the Annual Coastal Cleanup and Christmas toy drive.

We offer an active club with sailboat racing, organized weekend and extended cruises (both power and sail) , some rather unique and fun-filled special activities plus a variety of social events to allow time to meet, mingle, and establish friendships with others of similar interests. We are always looking for people who want to be involved, not just a member.

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at near by Signal Cove Club House in Hudson.

Our annual dues are $40 with an initiation fee of $40.

If you would like more information about the club please do not hesitate to contact me directly at 727 862 7799.
