In the Spring of 1985, a few friends from the Hudson, Florida area got together and wanted to form a club to go sailing together. A meeting was arranged at the home of Ron Ferris, who became the first Commodore of the newly formed HBYC.
Six potential members signed on that night and the club has been in existence for the past 26 years, slowly increasing to our current strength of 100 memberships or 153 members.
The members held their meetings at one another's homes until we started expanding enough to look for places to meet. We met at many different locations, with our current location now being the Signal Cove Homeowners Building, on the first Tuesday of the month.
Our first newsletter was instituted as a couple of typewritten notes intended to let our members know what the club was planning for the next month. In September of 1989, our first official newsletter, with a masthead of "Marker 2", was inaugurated and has really improved over the years over 90% of our club members enjoy the e-version. See the Home page to sample.
The club serves our community by supporting Cruising, Racing, Social Events, Educational and Community Service Programs.
Like Hudson, our club continues to grow. We have rag sailors, power boaters, fishing boats and a lot of people with no boats at all who enjoy the camaraderie of people fascinated with the sea.
